Cville Go Green Fest will take place on Saturday, May 14th from 10am to 2pm at Snow’s Garden Center. Dixon Disposal and Snow’s Garden Center are sponsoring this event to increase our communities’ eco-awareness. Our media sponsor is Cville Abode. There will be plenty of food, eco-themed games, a moon bounce, music, and lots of family fun. Z-95 will be broadcasting LIVE! We’ll have the Kona Ice Truck for sweet treats and the CASPCA will bring their furry friends. Organizations such as RideShare will be in attendence with information on commuting options. Additionally, they will announce the winner of the Green-themed garden flag design contest. The winner will receive nearly $1000 worth of prizes from Snow’s and Dixon AND the design will be used to create an actual flag to be sold online and in Snow’s Garden Center. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to support SAVE THE BAY.
“We want to remind people that Recycling isn’t the only thing they can do,” said Mike Dixon, owner of Dixon Disposal, a 2nd generation local trash business. “We want to help folks realize new ways to reduce their waste and reuse certain products.” A little over a year ago, Dixon Disposal began utilizing a new process that is now included in their regular trash service called Single Stream Recycling. When using Dixon’s service, you can put all of your trash in one can – no separating or sorting – and most of it will be recycled. “We’re trying to do our part to make the world a cleaner and greener place,” states Dixon.
Corbin Snow, from the 4th generation of Snow’s who have operated the local Garden Center and Landscaping Service, is a different sort of “Green”. “We offer Charlottesville plants, trees, and flowers here at the Garden Center,” Snow states. “We have all the tools folks need to plant their own vegetables and fruits, catch rainwater for use, and make compost of their waste.” Snow’s has been making yards in Charlottesville ‘nature beautiful’ for several decades. Aligning themselves with the earth-conscious was only natural.
Both Snow and Dixon are community-supporting businesses, so they decided to join together for a family-oriented event that will increase awareness of the need to REDUCE REUSE and RECYCLE.
